"Red Chair Travels" Visits Casa Laguna

(Updates follow main story.)

Casa Laguna is proud to participate in the Red Chair Travels, a unique artistic project started by our friends at the Woods Hole Inn on Cape Cod. After seeing the inspiring photographs taken by California photographer Julie Cromer who asked to borrow the inn’s distinctive red chair as a prop (see uncropped version of above photo on our Facebook page), Woods Hole General Manager Beth Colt came up with the idea of sending the red chair on an adventure across the nation, where it could be photographed by a variety of inns in a variety of cities. The Red Chair’s adventures are being chronicled on a dedicated website, redchairtravels.com. The chair’s Laguna Beach visit will receive full coverage on Casa Laguna’s blog, Facebook, Google+, and Twitter.

“Red,” as the chair is now affectionately known, will be transferred to Casa Laguna on May 20 by the owner of Hillcrest House Bed and Breakfast in San Diego. Because Laguna Beach is known as one of the most arts-oriented towns in the US, we are planning an “all arts” reception for the iconic red chair.  During her three-day stay in Laguna Beach, Red will be photographed onstage during rehearsals at both the Laguna Beach Playhouse and Pageant of the Masters. She will also spend some time greeting visitors at the Laguna Beach Visitors Center. Another highlight of Red’s stay will be serving as a model for art students from the Laguna Outreach for Community Arts, on location in the gardens at Laguna Nursery. Red will, of course, spend some time at Casa Laguna, meeting guests and being photographed with a bikini model on our ocean-view pool deck and lounging among our beautiful terraced gardens.

On May 23, Red will be transported (accompanied by Casa Laguna management) aboard a private yacht to Catalina Island so that she can be turned over to the owners of the Avalon and Aurora hotels in the city of Avalon. Watch this space for ongoing updates starting May 20.

UPDATE: Red arrived on May 20 and was transferred by Hillcrest House owner Ann Tidwell Calahan to Casa Laguna GM Kathryn Mace.

UPDATE - May 21: The photogenic red chair could not visit California without serving as a star prop in a professional photo shoot with bikini model Giselle Osle, poolside at Casa Laguna.

UPDATE - May 22: Red poses on the grounds of Laguna Nursery for a group of art students from Laguna Outreach for Community Arts.
