Proud Sponsor of Guide Dogs of America
When you stay with your pet at Casa Laguna Inn & Spa, we will donate $5 for each day of your stay to Guide Dogs of America (GDA). Our inn has been a GDA sponsor for more than a decade and two guide dog candidates, Emory and Nate (see photos), were raised right here on the Casa Laguna property. Guide Dogs of America has provided companion dogs and related instruction to blind and visually impaired individuals in the US and Canada since 1948. Additionally, GDA provides public education through their web site, arranges tour & speaker programs, and can provide information upon request to help educate business or individuals about access laws and guide dogs.
Emory (above) and Nate (left) came to Casa Laguna as part of GDA's Puppy Raising Program, in which puppies are placed with volunteer puppy raisers to learn basic obedience, become socialized, and receive lots of love. At 18 months of age, Nate moved on to GDA's training program, where a licensed instructor provided guide dog training, and eventually matched him with a vision-impaired professor at a Northern California University. Unfortun- ately for the program, and somewhat ironically, Emory developed vision problems and was unable to continue into the training program. Emory remained at Casa Laguna as resident GDA ambassador until he retired in 2009.
Throughout the years we have had many guests stay with us who were accompanied by GDA-trained canine companions, and we are always proud to see the results of our partnership with this wonderful organization. Casa Laguna has and will continue to support Guide Dogs of America on an ongoing basis, through donations, silent-auction packages, and more.
